About Corrections:

 

Bendigo Kangan Institute delivers a range of education and vocational training at eleven Victorian custodial facilities. Corrections teaching roles are well supported within the Bendigo Kangan Institute. Teachers at those campuses play an important role in contributing to prisoner rehabilitation, providing a means for them to engage in positive behavioural change and improve employment opportunities – all in a safe collaborative environment.  There is an experienced teaching team located at the Loddon and Middleton Prisons with students wanting to be engaged in education and training.

 

 

Position: Corrections Teacher: Koorie Programs

 

FTE: Part Time (0.6FTE), Ongoing

 

Location: Loddon and Middleton Prisons (With some work at Tarrengower Women’s Prison when required)

 

Salary: $79,743.00 - $90,944.00 Plus Super (Based on Qualifications and teaching experience)

About the Role:

 

BKI is seeking a Speciality Koorie Art Teacher to join our Corrections Education Team at Loddon & Middleton Prisons (Tarrengower Women’s Prison when required). The key responsibility of this role is to deliver quality vocational education and training and conduct competency-based assessment in a range of settings including classroom and workplace environments. You will be contributing to design, facilitation and evaluation of Teaching and Learning programs. As well as design and development of assessment tools.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and develop individual learning programs that cater to different learning styles and paces
  • Teach traditional and contemporary Aboriginal painting techniques, exploring symbolism, storytelling and connection to Country through visual Art
  • Develop students’ pottery skills through sharing cultural significance of ceramic forms and their uses
  • Other areas of teaching may include bead work, drawing & Printing
  • Deliver practical, hands-on training in various contexts including classrooms and workplace settings
  • Create authentic learning experiences that prepare students for real-world applications and find their unique strengths
  • Identify and support students with language, literacy, and numeracy needs
  • Plan and assess student learning using diverse methods beyond traditional exams
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with VET quality standards
  • Build relationships with industry partners and community stakeholders
  • Maintain professional knowledge, industry currency, and vocational competence

 

 

Key Requirements

 

  • Relevant vocational qualification and/or competencies at least to the level to be delivered and assessed (Art Qualifications desirable)
  • Current Industry Experience
  • TAE40122 / TAE 40116 / TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (AQF 4) or willing to/ currently enrolled.
  • Candidates must pass a prison police check in order to progress with this role (Required)
  • Strong understanding of applied learning principles
  • Ability to engage and motivate students with diverse learning needs
