Position: Careers Consultant

FTE: Full Time, Fixed Term (Until December 2026)

Location: Broadmeadows

Salary: $88,872.00 - $92,008.00 (Based on Qualifications & experience)

About the Role

As a Careers Consultant, you’ll be at the heart of our Skills & Jobs Centre, guiding participants toward brighter futures. You’ll provide tailored career advice, plan and facilitate Career development/employability workshops, that empowers individuals to make informed education and employment decisions.

This role is perfect for someone who’s passionate about engaging with disengaged youth - someone who thrives on building trust, rapport, and meaningful connections with young people. You’ll be a mentor, motivator, and guide, helping them rediscover their strengths and navigate the journey toward employment, training, or further education. Your work will directly impact lives and strengthen our community.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver CAS (Career Advisory Service) programs as part of the VELCI initiative, supporting young people to explore career options and build job-readiness skills
  • Deliver personalised 1:1 career counselling and pathway advice
  • Facilitate engaging employability workshops and information sessions
  • Use assessment tools to identify skills and opportunities
  • Promote Skills & Jobs Centre services across the region
  • Stay ahead of local labour market trends and skills in demand
  •  Ensure KPIs are met, and reports are completed with precision
  • Collaborate with internal teams - Teaching Departments, Reconnect program, NextStep and Kangan student supports service team.
  • Effectively communicate with external stakeholders including community groups, employment services, and apprenticeship providers (some travel around the local area)
  • Work closely with diverse participants from all walks of life seeking guidance and support

 

Key Requirements

  • A Graduate Certificate in Career Development (Required), with a strong understanding of career planning frameworks and employment services
  • Proven experience working with young people, especially those who are disengaged or facing barriers to education and employment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and foster trust
  • A genuine passion for mentoring and empowering youth to reach their potential
  • Knowledge of local labour market trends, training pathways, and support services
  • Strong facilitation skills and confidence delivering workshops or group sessions
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when needed
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail, especially in maintaining client records for department reporting requirements.
