Bendigo Kangan Institute is seeking a passionate and experienced Community Services Teacher - Alcohol and Other Drugs to deliver engaging, industry-relevant vocational education and training. Based at our Bendigo City Campus, this full-time role will support students to build the practical knowledge, professional skills and confidence needed to work effectively with individuals, families and communities affected by alcohol and other drug-related issues.

 

Delivery will be primarily classroom-based, with some work-based training and a requirement to deliver occasional evening courses as our Alcohol and Other Drugs programs continue to grow.

Remuneration: $84,618 - $110,834 (plus 12% superannuation) - qualification dependent

 

About the Role:

As a Community Services Teacher - Alcohol and Other Drugs, you will deliver high-quality training and assessment that prepares students for meaningful work across the community services sector. You will draw on your industry knowledge to connect theory with real-world practice and help students develop the capability, judgement and professional behaviours required to support people affected by alcohol and other drug-related issues.

 

The role is mainly classroom-based and will also include some work-based delivery. As our Alcohol and Other Drugs programs grow, you will also be required to deliver some evening courses.

 

You will:

  • Deliver engaging, industry-relevant training and assessment in Alcohol and Other Drugs and related Community Services programs
  • Deliver primarily classroom-based training, with some work-based and evening course delivery
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds
  • Use practical examples and contemporary industry knowledge to bring course content to life
  • Adapt teaching approaches and learning activities to meet different student needs
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback and support
  • Collaborate with industry and internal stakeholders to keep training relevant and responsive to workforce needs
  • Contribute to curriculum development, validation and continuous improvement activities
  • Maintain accurate records and meet training package, regulatory and organisational requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a higher vocational education qualification, or willingness to enrol
  • Certificate IV or Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs
  • Demonstrated and current industry experience in Alcohol and Other Drugs or a closely related community services setting
  • Strong facilitation, communication and student engagement skills
  • The ability to support students from diverse backgrounds and with varied learning needs
  • High-level knowledge of relevant legislation, community services and health issues affecting clients

 

Highly Regarded

  • Experience delivering vocational education and training in Alcohol and Other Drugs or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Alcohol and Other Drugs legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks, with the ability to translate compliance and ethical practice requirements into contemporary teaching and learning.
  • Additional qualifications in Community Services, Mental Health, Youth Work, Counselling or a related field
  • Understanding of cultural safety, trauma-informed, strengths-based and person-centred practice
  • Experience with digital and blended learning approaches
  • Experience contributing to assessment validation, resource development and continuous improvement
  • A current driver's licence where relevant to work-based delivery
